Man Utd 3 Celtic 1

Pre-season friendly time is already upon us and Manchester Utd started the season last night with a 3-1 victory over Celtic in Toronto last night. Fielding a strong lineup including Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes, Darren Fletcher and Ryan Giggs, it was another first team regular who starred, as Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov scored once and made two assists.

Berbatov opened the scoring in the 34th minute after Mame Biram Diouf crossed for the lanky striker to control with his right foot before finishing with his left.

Celtic were level just past the hour mark after debutant Chris Smalling was penalized for pulling Celtic debutant Joe Ledley to the ground in the area. Greece international Georgios Samaras converted the resulting penalty. However Berbatov then made further assists for youngsters Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley in the 79th and 86th minutes to complete a routine victory for the English team.

United’s next game is against Philadelphia Union on Wednesday., followed by the Kansas City Wizards at Arrowhead Stadium on July 25, and the MLS All-Stars in Houston on July 28 before travelling to Guadalajara, Mexico, to play Chivas. Celtic have lost their opening two friendlies now after a 1-0 defeat to the Philadelphia Union and face the Seattle Sounders on Saturday.
