Transfer Deadline Day

The latest moves:

Greg Halford has gone on loan to Charlton for the rest of the season from Sunderland. Arguably one of the poorer decisions Roy Keane has made in his career is signing the defender last summer for £3 million from Reading where he had barely played. He has barely played since his move and a drop down into the Championship is his best chance of regular first-team football.

Andy Reid could be Roy Keane’s latest mistake in the transfer market. Although he fits the Irish / Ex Man Utd model that Keane seems to covet, he is also twice the man anyone else in the Premiership is. Despite his dodgy fitness, Reid may well be a decent signing but £4 million? Anyone? Charlton must be licking their lips after the sale of Darren Bent for £18 mil in the summer, Reid for another £4 mil will do nicely.

Perhaps the biggest news of the day, Benjani is undergoing a medical at Man City ahead of an expected £6.5 million deal. Benjani, one of the top scorers in the Premiership, has been regularly praised by manager Harry Redknapp but with 18 months left on his contract he may have given an indicatio that he wants to move on. Rumour is that Jermaine Defoe will replace him at Portsmouth…and that must mean no-one is willing to take Darren Bent off Spurs’ hands….(more later)
