Gordon signs for Sunderland

Craig Gordon has signed for Sunderland within the past hour for a fee of £9 million.

Roy Keane has finally got his man, despite insisting last week that the deal was not going to happen after Hearts had rejected a similar bid from the Black Cats for the Scottish International goalkeeper.

Keane, who was also happy to insist that he was content with the keepers he had at his disposal, was made aware of Gordon’s availability again in the past couple of days, and has beaten Martin O’Neill and Aston Villa to the punch by securing Gordon’s signature.

The move is a blow to Aston Villa who are missing first choice goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen for this weeks opening game against Liverpool and have failed to offer the Dane a new deal at Villa Park, reflecting O’Neill’s lack of faith in Sorensen as a genuine no.1.

Villa will now have to look elsewhere and in the meantime Stuart Taylor will make a rare appearance in goal for the Villians this weekend.

Gordon though, should make his debut against Spurs in the season’s opener on Saturday…..
