Breaking news on Henry…

Cadena Ser radio, the radio station that broke the news of Zindeine Zidane and David Beckham signing for Real Madrid, has announced tonight that Thierry Henry has signed a four year contract with Barcelona. In a big blow for Gunners fans, Henry seems to have settled on a move which will see Barcelona pay £16.2 million or 24million euros. Spanish newspapers are also reporting the story tonight and it seems as though one of the longest running transfer sagas around is about to end.

Henry has been unhappy about several things at the club recently, especially David Dein’s shock departure from the club earlier in the season. Henry has also voiced his concerns about the commitment of the club to signing big players instead of their reliance on youth. Henry’s departure may have a knock-on effect for the club in that current staff will be disappointed to see their best player and captain leave, while potential signings may be put off by the lack of Henry’s presence.

For Barcelona, it ends a year long chase for the French striker and will send the club into raptures over the signing of a player whom many consider to be amongst the worlds best. Henry joins fellow French players and friends Lillian Thuram and Ludovic Giuly at the Nou Camp and La Liga’s gain will be the Premiership’s loss as the Arsenal man seeks pastures new after a glittering career under Arsene Wenger.
