Premiership Fixtures: 2007-2008

Well they’ve arrived and that panic that we’ve been feeling at the lack of football in our lives can now subside slightly. In two months Liverpool will be playing Chelsea, for the first of many times no doubt, and everything will be back to normal. Breathe a sigh of relief people, and have a look at the early fixtures worth talking about……

Opening Day:

The standout fixture here has to be Bolton Vs Newcastle. Sam Allardyce’s first mission as Newcastle manager is to take his new team straight back to his old team where his former assistant Sammy Lee will be hoping to give him the worst possible start to his new career. While Bolton may not have the strongest squad, if anyone knows how to play at Sam’s game, it’s Sammy.: Prediction: Home win

August 14th/15th

Birmingham Vs Sunderland. Two of the relegated teams go head-to-head just two game in, both having faced tough opening games. Birmingham start away at Chelsea where a good performance is about all they can expect to come away from Stamford Bridge with, while Sunderland host Spurs, a tricky tie against a team looking for a top-four spot, though a result is not unlikely for Roy Keane’s men. Both teams will recognise the importance of a good start. Having witnessed Reading’s excellent pre-Christmas run which guaranteed them a relaxed climax to the season, old teammates Roy Keane and Steve Bruce will be desperate for the three points here. Prediction: Away Win

August 18th/19th

The managers of Chelsea and Liverpool have their...

Any guesses? Yep, Liverpool Vs Chelsea (whoever said Fulham Vs Middlesbrough, get out….). Both sides know how important it is to get off to a good start, Liverpool never recovered from their poor opening last season. Chelsea won the battle between these two last year early in the season and it inflicted a huge blow on the Merseysiders. However, Liverpool will like the idea of playing Chelsea at Anfield before they can get their groove going. Prediction: Draw. (Man City Vs Man Utd is another one to look out for, City have a tough start to the season and will be giving everything they have against their local rivals)

August 25th/26th

Middlesbrough host Newcastle. A local derby and the return of Mark Viduka plus Jonathan Woodgate Vs his hometown club who he may or may not have rejected to sign for Gareth Southgate’s team. Expect fireworks (Boro fans – they’re like big flashes of lightning in the sky, used here as a metaphor for entertainment). Prediction: Draw (see also Man Utd V Spurs. Utd have a tricky opening and will not relish playing Spurs after away games at Portsmouth and Man City).

September 1st

Roy Keane shakes hands with Sir Alex Ferguson

Man Utd V Sunderland. Alex Ferguson Vs Roy Keane. Ryan Giggs, Pau Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney Vs Roy Keane. Whoever gets the honour of refereeing Vs Roy Keane and Alex Ferguson. All others, sit back and enjoy. Prediction: Who the hell knows???

September 15th

Martin Jol remonstrates with Arsene Wenger

Spurs V Arsenal: These games tend to be very entertaining. Wenger and Jol famously squared up two years ago, a last minute Jenas cracker saw a 2-2 draw last year, historic rivalry, battling for Champions League places. This looks like a cracking game. Prediction: Home win

                                                  September 22nd

                               http://bertykat.spaces.live.com/             VS            http://troll-urbano.weblog.com.pt/arquivo/troll_desportivo/

Man Utd V Chelsea. You all know the story. Utd have a very tricky opening. After this game things get easier but don’t expect them to steamroller the Premiership as they started last year. Chelsea also have a tough start to the league and will be looking to get something from their to Old Trafford, especially if they come away from Anfield with nothing. Games are becoming more cautious between the two now with endurance the real difference between the sides at the end of the season. Prediction: Draw
