Transfer Talk 05/06/07

(Alves, Cisse and Smith)

The Sun

Chelsea have entered the race to sign Liverpool target Daniel Alves for £12million. Now this one seems to be a slow-burner. Alves was reportedly close to moving to Anfield last summer but Liverpool stalled due to the fee involved and signed Jermaine Pennant instead. Now, Alves has a new deal under his belt, the fee has gone up, and more parties have expressed an interest in the player. We reckon’ Alves will stay in Spain, Liverpool haven’t talked about him much recently and are being linked with other wingers as rafa casts his eye over the likes of Malouda. We also doubt Chelsea will be allowed to sign him when they have the expensive and under-used SWP and with Robben and Cole fit again, expect Chelsea to sell off some midfielders before they start buying them again.

Fulham have made £2million offers for David Healy of Leeds and Walter Pandiani of Espanyol. These both look likely to go through, Pandiani is being courted by plenty of English clubs after a reasonably successful stint with Birmingham showed he could hack it in English football. Meanwhile Healy and Sanchez go together like shoo-wap-shoo-wada-wada-yippity-boo-de-boo. Bit like big Sam and Ben Haim.

Bolton are targeting a loan move for Djibril Cisse. Why? God, why? We don’t believe this one either. Fair enough they may be interested, but if Liverpool really want to spend big this summer, they’re surely going to offload unwanted purchases like Mr. Cisse. A loan move suits Bolton far more than Liverpool and Rafa Benitez is unlikely to be sentimental when Sammy Lee comes knocking at his old employer’s door.

Daily Mirror

West Ham are attempting to hijack Newcastle’s bids for Mark Viduka and Joey Barton by offering both players far greater wages. The Hammers are also set to make an unwanted bid for Everton midfielder Tim Cahill. Seems like the Hammers are throwing their weight around, almost deliberately as a less-than courteous thank-you for their treatment by the other Premiership clubs over the whole Tevez row. Having expressed an interest in Andy Johnson, Tim Cahill is subject to a cheeky West Ham bid, two players Everton have no interest in selling and the Daily Mirror reports Everton are not too happy. West Ham are also attempting to curtail Big Sam’s plans at Newcastle, but Newcastle should wrap up the signings of both Barton and Viduka in the next few days…

Daily Star

Man Utd. are set to offer Alan Smith a new five year deal to stay at the club till at least 2012. This is quite a turnaround for the snowy haired striker who was left chomping at the bit for most of the season by Ferguson who felt he wasn’t sufficiently fit to play after recovering from his horrific broken leg suffered at the hands of a John Arne Riise thunderbolt, not a nice way to go you can imagine. Well done to Smith though, because love him or hate him, he plays football the old way, with heart and a bit of lip and we salute him for it.
