Tales from the tabloids.

Today’s footballing stories from the tabloids…..

Daily Mail

West Ham have reportedly joined the race to sign Craig Bellamy on the same day that Gareth Barry expressed his desire to see Bellamy at Villa Park. However the Daily Express reports that Liverpool want £12million for the angriest short person in the world. Michael Owen is reportedly available for £9million…you do the maths.

The Express reports that Juventus are lining up a £17million bid for Frank Lampard. All jokes aside, if Frank is allowed to buy out the rest of his contract, why don’t Juve give him that much money and then get him for free instead of paying a hell of a lot of euros for him? Then again, that kind of business is what landed them in Serie B so maybe it’s nice to see everything above board and all that….expect Juve to be linked with everybody in the coming weeks as they try to return to the summit of Italian football.

Tottenham are set to move for Michael Owen if he can prove his fitness this summer. We at thefc100 believe Owen will probably stick around St.James’s for another year but it’s nice to see the papers haven’t forgotten Spurs habit of trying to sign, well, everyone….

Jussi Jaaskelainen is the subject of a £2million  bid from newly promoted Sunderland. Little bit cheeky from Keane but we like it. Securing one of the Premiership’s top keepers for £2million would be a great bit of business but it’s unlikely Bolton will allow the shot-stopper to move on….

The Daily Star reports that Sunderland are also preparing a £5million plus Stern John offer for David Nugent. The newly capped forward is known to want a move to the Premiership after Preston failed to secure promotion and will certainly move on this summer. This offer seems fair to both parties as Stern John can score goals to replace Nugent, however the Preston star might not relish a potential relegation battle and Everton or Manchester City would possibly be preferred destinations. Either way, expect him to move on soon…..

The Daily Mirror reports that Liverpool’s new owners are prepared to fund a move for Samuel Eto’o. Eto’o recently announced that he didn’t want to move from Barcelona but with plenty of potential moves in the pipeline at the Nou Camp this summer, if Barca fail to hang onto the likes of Ronaldinho, Eto’o might reconsider. Whether the delights of the river Mersey are to his liking is debatable…..

The same paper reports that Portsmouth are interested in taking Sami Hyypia. Hyypia is certain to move on this summer as Liverpool look to replace the ageing central defender, whether Portsmouth are interested after completing the signings of Distin and Hreidarsson remains to be seen. Also, Hyypia would presumably want a guarantee of first team football and with the number of central defenders already in Portsmouth’s squad, Hyypia may choose another option.

The Sun reports that Nigel Reo-Coker has been told he has no future at the club, on the same day he handed in a transfer request. Did he jump or was he pushed? Probably a bit of both; with the Hammers’ fans berating the young captain for much of the season a move would suit both sides. Potential suitors will be numerous for the man who was once linked with Manchester United, has captained both club and country and has obvious potential at this stage in his career….
