Today’s Transfer Talk.

Making the news today…..

The Sun and the Daily Mirror report that Rafael Benitez will begin a radical overhaul of his squad starting on, well Thursday. We think it’s a bit off given that Peter Crouch will possibly still be roboting it up on Thursday but nevertheless, Xabi Alonso, Bolo Zenden, Sami Hyypia, Scott Carson, Mark Gonzalez and one of Craig Bellamy and Peter Crouch could be victims of Rafa Benitez’s Anfield cull. Reports continue that only Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Dirk Kuyt are safe from expulsion. Now really, does that sound like Mr ‘Don’t you dare try and hug me Stevie’ Benitez. He’s like the players’ father that they never had and always wanted. Still, the 2005 exodus of ‘heroes’ Igor Biscan, Vladimir Smicer, Milan Baros and the exile of others including Cisse, LeTallec, Pongolle and even Dudek suggests that Benitez wouldn’t think twice if he feels the squad needs to be dramatically changed around.

The Daily Mirror suggests Alex Ferguson is thinking along similar lines with Kieran Richardson, Gabriel Heinze and Michael Silvestre on their way out of Old Trafford. Silvestre already has a move to Lyon lined up apparently, there go the seven-in-a-row ambitions then……

The Daily Express attempts to take things one step further with the news that Michael Owen will, in fact, remain in the black and white of Newcastle next season after none of the top four clubs expressed their interest in his services. Perhaps this is because instead of meeting his new manager Sam Allardyce recently he made a beeline for Ireland to indulge in a bit of horse-racing for the day…I dunno, maybe..Might have sent out the wrong signals Micky thats all i’m saying….

The same paper makes the slightly boozy claim that Man City are interested in retaining Joey Barton’s services. We happen to like Joey Barton here, a committed, hard player. However, were we to be beaten to smithereens by his fists for some unknown reason, we’re not sure we’d have him round for tea and a game of ball anytime soon. Maybe ’cause we couldn’t see the ball due to the swelling on our eyes? Maybe because we felt he went a little too far? Either way, expect to see Ousmane Dabo transferred in the very near future…..

Elsewhere, Ashley Cole has spoken to the Evening Standard about tomorrow night’s Champions League Final stating watching Milan and Liverpool now fight it out is a “kick in the teeth” and he may well choose not to watch the Athens final on television. Perhaps this is because you don’t actually like football Ashley.

The Sun also claims that Andriy Shevchenko will hold talks with AC Milan today on a possible return to the San Siro. Shevchenko failed to see why this rumour would come about simply because he was invited to the final as a personal guest of the Italian giants. This rumour is getting very, very, boring. We are thinking of implementing a ban on the names of Mourinho, Abramovich, Ballack and Shevchenko for the next month. Please let us know your thoughts….(unless you’re one of the aforementioned people).
